When it comes to keeping an eye on how government money is spent, Colorado’s Republican delegation to Washington has superpowers.

That’s the estimation of the conservative Council for Citizens Against Government Waste. The Washington, D.C-based nonprofit put the four in the “Taxpayer Hero” category of its latest rankings.

U.S. Rep. Doug Lamborn of Colorado Springs scored 99 percent, with Rep. Ken Buck of Windsor close behind at 98. Rep. Mike Coffman of Aurora scored a 90, followed by Sen. Cory Gardner of Yuma with 89 and Rep. Scott Tipton of Cortez with 86.

Democrats from Colorado did poorly – very poorly. They fell into a category called “hostile.”

Rep. Jared Polis of Boulder scored 5 percent, followed by Sen. Michael Bennet of Denver with 4, then Rep. Diana DeGette of Denver and Ed Perlmutter of Arvada with just 3 percent each.

“I’m grateful for the recognition this award brings,” said Lamborn, who is in a four-way GOP primary on June 26. “I’ll continue to battle government waste. Our taxpayers deserve nothing less.”

The organization says it lauds members of Congress “who stand up for taxpayers and ignore the temptations of satisfying local or special interests. However, those who support a big-government agenda should be prepared to face the consequences for their spendthrift behavior.”
