The Fort Collins Coloradoan: Keeping Fort Collins great will mean looking hard at its sales tax rate

Much has changed in Fort Collins since 2010, when voters agreed to increase the city sales tax to shore up services such as police and fire protection, transportation and parks.

So, it makes sense to take time to examine the city’s current and future financial situation before asking voters to renew the tax, as will certainly happen. What’s unclear is when the ask will come and for how much.

The Keep Fort Collins Great sales tax was pitched as a way for the city to make up financial ground after years of budget trimming related to the Great Recession.
