The Pueblo Chieftain: Prudent approach to marijuana licensing

Pueblo officials have taken a prudent approach to the licensing of marijuana retail businesses and the tax revenue derived from them.

This week, a status report on city licensing showed that only five of the eight authorized recreational marijuana stores have actually opened so far. This shows that the City Council was prudent in limiting the first set of retail stores to four shops south and four shops north of the Arkansas River.

The North Side stores that opened this year are NuVue Pharma, 4740 Dillon Dr., and The 404, at 404 N. Greenwood Ave. Open on the South Side are Earth Solutions, 2630 W. Pueblo Blvd.; Seven-One-Nine, 2927 Farabaugh Lane; and Ripe Dispensary, 1237 Southgate Place.

Oh, the irony of Republicans in Congress passing a massive federal tax cut that would actually provide Colorado with a boon in state tax revenue, and only a year after state GOP lawmakers shot down a proposal to ask voters for a dedicated revenue stream to fund the $9 billion backlog of transportation needs. The state’s […]
