Andrew Fish is climbing the statehouse Democrat ladder. Thursday Senate Democratic Leader Lucia Guzman, D-Denver, announced that Fish will serve as the deputy chief of staff for the caucus.

Fish was the campaign manager for Daniel Kagan’s victory in his state Senate race last year, and then served as the Senate aide to the former House member from Cherry Hills Village in the last legislative session.

As a Legislative Aide, he was instrumental in helping advance Senator Kagan’s civil asset forfeiture bill, and I am excited to have him join our team and continue to serve the caucus,” Guzman said in a statement.

She cited his work “in and out of the Capitol,” including campaign organizing for the Public Interest Research Group in Colorado and Massachusetts, as well as his organizing work on the union-backed campaign Fight for $15 to raise the minimum wage

“I am honored to join this incredible team and eager to help our Senators ensure that all Coloradans have the opportunities they need to succeed and thrive,” Fish said in a statement.

A 2011 graduate of the University of Virginia, Fish worked for two years as a nuclear engineer at the Norfolk Naval Shipyard before getting into politics full-time. In 2012 he volunteered as a neighborhood team leader for President Obama’s re-election campaign.

Fish will serve with Lisa LaBriola, who was named the caucus’ chief of staff in July. LaBriola had served as deputy chief of staff, before succeeding Shad Murib, who briefly managed the congressional campaign of Sen. Andy Kerr. Kerr dropped out of the race when incumbent Ed Perlmutter decided to run for re-election instead of governor, as he previously announced.

Democrats are the minority, by one seat, in the upper chamber.
