Wayne Williams endorses Chance Hill in CU regent’s race for El Paso County

In El Paso County, it would be difficult to find a better endorsement than Wayne Williams, the former county Republican Party chairman, a county commissioner and former county clerk and recorder who was elected secretary of state in 2014. But credit that to political newcomer Chance Hill, his most prominent endorser to date.

Hill is running for the University of Colorado regent’s seat in District 5 in El Paso County next year. He hopes to succeed fellow Republican Kyle Hybl, who is term-limited.

Hill announced his candidacy for next year’s race in March and has worked hard to lock up key endorsements, which could help ensure he remains the lone candidate. Regents oversee CU’s network of campuses, such as the University of Colorado Colorado Springs.

Here’s what Williams had to say about Hill:

As a 25-year resident of the 5th Congressional District, I’m pleased to endorse Chance Hill to be our next CU Regent in Colorado’s 5th.

My wife, Holly, received her master’s in public administration from UCCS, one of our sons graduated from there, and I had the opportunity to teach at the UCCS College of Business for several years. I’ve worked with both Jerry Rutledge and Kyle Hybl, and I’ve seen the difference committed regents have made to UCCS.

Given his passion, professional accomplishments, and recent experience in the college environment as a law student, Chance is well-positioned to be a fantastic CU regent who will make an impact.

And Chance will fight to expand the research and development component of UCCS to help it become an even more prominent learning institution and economic juggernaut in the future.

Chance is a natural leader, and I have seen first-hand his ability to reach out to a variety of people and build consensus. He also understands how to operate effectively in a complex bureaucracy, having served for more than a decade in our country’s national security apparatus as an officer in the military and in the CIA.

Chance will bring his experience to bear as a CU regent, and I am confident that he will be an effective voice for UCCS and the 5th Congressional District in particular.

For all of these reasons, he has my vote.

I encourage you to learn more about Chance at www.chanceforcuregent.com and to offer his campaign any support.

Respectfully,

Wayne Williams
