The Loveland Reporter-Herald: That Bud commercial was for you
In today’s political climate, even an advertisement meant to remind and inspire people about the American dream can come under fire.
So the Budweiser beer company’s Super Bowl commercial about the company founder, which the company said was designed to “highlight the ambition of our founder, Adolphus Busch, and his unrelenting pursuit of the American dream,” drew criticism in light of the Trump administration’s effort to stop immigration from seven countries.
Except for pure Native Americans, the majority of people in this country are descended from immigrants, most of whom could tell us stories about the hardships they went through to come here and make a better life for their descendants – us. And the story of Adolphus Busch was no different.
The commercial was filmed before anyone knew what today’s hostile political climate would be, but it was brave for company representatives to go ahead and screen it rather than going back to an innocuous dog-and-Clydesdale pony commercial.
