Glenn: Commissioner, candidate and now a consultant

Less than three weeks after losing his race against Democratic incumbent Michael Bennet in the U.S. Senate contest in Colorado, Republican Darryl Glenn announced Monday that he has started a consulting firm.

The El Paso County commissioner announced the formation of DLG Esquire Attorney at Law.

“My experience as a county commissioner has taught me that the best ideas often come from our neighbors, church groups and community. But turning a great idea into a reality takes knowledge and ability,” Glenn said. “That’s where DLG Esquire comes in. Our team takes an idea and gives it life. Together we make great things happen.”

A news release announcing the formation of the company stated that the firm would focus on assisting strategic policymakers, business and neighborhood leaders in “implementing innovative solutions to growing community challenges.”

Glenn’s firm will help clients navigate the initiative, social enterprise and campaign processes, according to the news release.

Glenn is starting the company with his wife, Jane Northrup Glenn, whom he recently married on Oct. 13, according to Northrup’s Facebook page. Glenn announced on Facebook that he was “in a relationship” with Northrup on Aug. 16.

Northrup served as an adviser to Glenn’s campaign, traveling with him to the Republican National Convention in Cleveland, Ohio, in July, as well as other political events across the state, according to the Denver Post. She founded Fort Collins-based Authority Staffing, which specializes in employment for those with criminal backgrounds.

Similar to Glenn, Northrup describes herself as an “unapologetic Christian, capitalist and non-conformist.”

Glenn himself struggled throughout his U.S. Senate bid. He failed to garner national establishment Republican support, which largely left him in the shadows of Bennet in terms of fundraising and mainstream exposure.

Glenn also experienced several missteps throughout his campaign, including waffling in his support of Republican Donald Trump, which left him at odds with both the anti-Trump and pro-Trump crowds at times.

But Glenn rose to prominence as an underdog, clearing a crowded Republican field and ultimately giving Bennet a closer run than some expected. He lost to Bennet by about 6 points, despite being a forgotten candidate by many big-money Republican donors.

Despite his woes convincing the establishment, Glenn still posted an impressive fundraising haul along the way, ending the third quarter with nearly $2.8 million in contributions, raising more money since July than Bennet.

Glenn also earned support from Republican-icon Sens. Ted Cruz of Texas and Mike Lee of Utah, which brought attention to his lackluster campaign near the end of the race, when he needed a boost the most.

“My life will not be defined by a single political campaign,” Glenn said. “Those will come and go. But what has driven me to run for elected office in the past still drives me today. The knowledge that heroes do walk among us with tremendous strength and power. And I look forward to helping them realize their aspirations to change our world for the better.”
