Denver City Council to vote on police identity bill and quarterly reporting

Two bills are up for final consideration by the Denver City Council on Monday.

The first is Council Bill 26-0125, which proposes an ordinance to prohibit law enforcement officers, including federal immigration agents, from concealing their identities while interrogating, detaining, or arresting an individual within the City and County of Denver.

The second is Council Bill 26-0128, which aims to codify quarterly general fund reporting to the council from the city’s Department of Finance. As it stands, the council currently does not receive regular budget updates, relying instead on “ad hoc” information from the administration rather than standardized data.

Sponsors of the bill argue the measure, if passed, “isn’t about mistrust. It’s about building a shared understanding of our financial health.”

Elsewhere on the agenda is a resolution proposing to add $500,000 to an existing agreement between the City and County of Denver and Colorado Library Consortium to digitize the Rocky Mountain News collection for expanded free access to the public.

The council will issue one proclamation during the 3:30 p.m. session honoring Adelante Latina Day.

There will be two scheduled public hearings on the following proposed legislation:

  • 26-0026: A bill for an ordinance changing the zoning classification for multiple properties along West 32nd Avenue in West Highland.
  • 26-0103: A bill for an ordinance approving and accepting the Southwest Area Plan, which shall become a part of Comprehensive Plan 2040 for the City and County of Denver pursuant to the provisions of Section 12-61 of the Denver Revised Municipal Code. The courtesy public hearing is limited to one hour.

Denver City Council meetings will continue to be held in the Parr-Widener Community Room as renovations in the council chambers progress.

Seating is very limited, and the room will fill up quickly.

The Denver City Council’s regular meeting commences at 3:30 p.m., with the general public comment session scheduled to begin at 5 p.m.
