Colorado declares disaster emergency, mobilizes resource to fight LeRoux fire
Gov. Jared Polis on Tuesday declared a disaster emergency to fight a wildfire that has burned about 700 acres in Delta County.
The declaration means the deployment of state resources to help fight the LeRoux fire after the sheriff requested it, saying the emergency has grown beyond the capability of the county to manage.
Officials noted that elevated fire risks have been forecast for the coming week in western Colorado.
The fire is burning on private and Bureau of Land Management land. So far, 15 homes have been evacuated, while authorities have placed 152 others on on pre-evacuation notice.
Authorities said they have mobilized interagency aviation and ground equipment and personnel, including deploying Colorado Division of Fire Prevention and Control air and overhead resources.
