Homeless camp sweeps in Colorado Springs net more than a dozen arrests, citations
The Colorado Springs Police Department’s Homeless Outreach Team reported more than a dozen arrests and citations this week in sweeping two local homeless encampments.
At 12:48 p.m. Tuesday, HOT officers deployed near the area of Austin Bluffs Parkway and North Academy Boulevard, after multiple complaints from nearby businesses of trespassing, camping and other activity involving narcotics, officials said.
According to the department, officers cited four individuals for trespassing and two for illegal camping.

Police said they arrested six individuals, and brought them to the El Paso County jail for outstanding warrants.
Officers said they offered resource assistance to individuals experiencing homelessness contacted during the sweep.
Hours later at 5:45 p.m., the HOT team sent a second deployment of officers to the area of West Uintah and 19th streets after a second series of trespassing, camping, parking and narcotics activity complaints.
Department officials said outreach team officers issued two trespassing citations and notified others of outstanding misdemeanor warrants. One person was taken to the El Paso County jail on an outstanding warrant.

Additionally, officers impounded one vehicle, and one camper trailer and issued warnings for five vehicles in the area that could be towed if not moved in a reasonable amount of time.
According to an online blotter entry, officers also returned to the area of West Uintah and 19th streets Wednesday to finish the encampment sweep.
During the Wednesday sweep, officers issued another 11 individual trespassing citations and one citation for urinating in public in a school parking lot. Three individuals were taken into custody on outstanding warrants.
