Democratic VP pick Tim Walz to visit Denver this week for campaign fundraiser

Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz is set to appear at a high-dollar fundraiser in Denver on Wednesday with Colorado’s Democratic Gov. Jared Polis, just over a week after Vice President Kamala Harris named Walz as her running mate.

Billed as a reception, the Denver event will be hosted by prominent Colorado donor Tim Gill, with ticket prices ranging from $1,000 to $50,000, according to an invitation reviewed by Colorado Politics. The event’s time and location were not released.

The fundraiser is part of a five-state, cross-country fundraising swing by Walz, according to the Harris campaign. Harris announced that the military veteran and former social studies teacher was her pick for vice president on Aug. 6, capping a whirlwind reset to the presidential campaign just over two weeks after President Joe Biden withdrew from the race and endorsed Harris.

Polis had been scheduled to join Gill for a fundraiser with Biden in late July, but the Democrat’s campaign postponed that event amid speculation that Biden would step aside.

The Democrats face Republican nominees former President Donald Trump and his running mate, Ohio Sen. JD Vance.

Polis, whose name was briefly floated as a potential vice presidential pick, hailed Walz’s addition to the ticket, saying that the “the path to victory is now even brighter” in a social media post.

“My friend Tim Walz is a strong governor who has delivered results, fought to protect and expand our freedom, and has a shared vision to help build a better future,” tweeted Polis.

Walz’s first solo appearances on the campaign trail this week follow a series of massive rallies with Harris in swing states last week that included stops in Pennsylvania, Georgia, Wisconsin, Michigan, Arizona and Nevada.

The Harris campaign said Walz was scheduled to hit the road for speeches and fundraisers starting with two events in California on Tuesday, with appearances in Denver and Boston the next day and stops in Newport, R.I., and Southhampton, N.Y., on Thursday.

Wednesday’s fundraiser is slated to raise contributions for the Harris Victory Fund, a joint fundraising committee that shares proceeds between Harris’ presidential campaign, the Democratic National Committee and all 50 state Democratic parties, plus the District of Columbia’s, according to the invitation.

Trump landed in Colorado on Saturday to raise funds at an even pricier private reception in Aspen hosted by billionaires and energy industry tycoons, according to his campaign. Tickets to that event topped out at $500,000 per couple.
