News: Six individuals whose teaching and performing talents have helped to elevate the art of dance in Colorado have been named Legends of Dance, 2024.
They were selected for their “Deep and meaningful contributions that have elevated dance in Colorado and whose impact and legacy will be celebrated and preserved for generations to come,” said Christin Crampton Day, president of The Dance Archive board and executive director of Colorado Business Committee for the Arts.
The 2024 Legends are:
Grupo Tlaloc, which for 35 years has kept ancient Aztec dances alive by performing them locally, nationally and internationally;
Jo Bunton Keel, co-founder of Eulipions, former member of Cleo Parker Robinson Dance and the 2015 recipient of the Colorado Theatre Guild’s Lifetime Achievement Award;
Nancy McElroy, a retired administrator for the University of Colorado dance programs;
Christina Noel Adcock, a dancer who spent 38 years at the Arvada Center, 20 of which were as dance coach and ballet mistress
Rhetta Shead, vice president/theatre operations for Cleo Parker Robinson Dance and one of five mentors for Dance/USA 2024; and
Yunyu Wang, professor emerita in Colorado College’s Theatre and Dance Department, where during her 22-year tenure she also was the director of Asian studies.
This marks the 20th year that this honor has been bestowed by The Dance Archive at the University of Denver.
The 2024 Legends will be celebrated Oct. 20 at a 4 p.m. reception held at Cleo Parker Robinson Dance, 119 Park Avenue West, Denver.
In addition, each Legend will be featured in a video interview that, along with any other donated archival material, will be placed in The Dance Archive for future reference by dance, and other, researchers.
