Biden campaign raises $10 million in 24 hours after State of the Union

President Joe Biden’s campaign announced on Sunday it fundraised $10 million within the first 24 hours following the president’s State of the Union speech.

Nielsen’s ratings released Friday revealed that 32.2 million viewers tuned in to listen to the president’s speech. This was a 5-million-person increase from the year before across all 14 television networks, including cable.

The fundraising haul comes after the campaign reported it raised $42 million in January, bringing its total cash reserves reportedly over $130 million. However, 10 million remains Biden’s most lucrative fundraising day, a campaign official told Axios.

The White House also streamed Biden’s speech on YouTube, to the tune of over 1.5 million viewers in English and a Spanish subtitled version. Its account on the social media platform reports just over 2 million subscribers.

Biden is up for reelection this year and, during his Thursday night address, made frequent criticisms of his “predecessor,” a reference to former President Donald Trump, who is the presumptive Republican nominee for president.

Biden was praised and criticized for his address, which came at a momentous time as he appears destined to face Trump again in November’s presidential election.

Almost 263,000 voters in the five Super Tuesday states where “uncommitted” or similar options were available did the same.
