THE DANCE ARCHIVE
Denver
News: Nominations are due Feb. 29 for the 2024 Legends of Dance, an award given annually to honor individuals who have made a “significant and sustained impact on dance in Colorado.”
The awards were established in 2004 and since then, 104 “living legends” have been celebrated.
Judges will be looking for a variety of dance styles and forms; geographic representation of the state; and racial, ethnic, cultural and gender diversity. Posthumous nominees are not accepted, and dance organizations must still be in operation.
Nominees do not have to be dancers or performers; previous recipients have been producers, directors, philanthropists and photographers and include choreographer-dancer Cleo Parker Robinson, founder of Cleo Parker Robinson Dance; Dawn Fay and Garrett Ammon, founders of Wonderbound, Colorado’s second largest ballet company; the Denver Ballet Guild; philanthropist Florence Ruston; Colorado Ballet artistic director Gil Boggs; photographer Stan Obert and former University of Colorado dance professor Tish Williams.
