Denver FBI searching for members of U.S. Capitol mob, threats over inauguration
The FBI’s Denver Division is taking heightened action to identify those who stormed the U.S. Capitol last week, in addition to preventing threats as Inauguration Day approaches.
The division said it is focusing all of its investigative resources to identifying mob members from the Capitol. Denver FBI has been using human sources and technical tools to bring charges against the criminals with federal prosecutors.
Denver FBI will also be setting up a command post to monitor potential threats over the next week.
The command post, which was also established during the 2020 presidential election, will work to gather intelligence and coordinate with other local and state law enforcement agencies.
“This is all part of the effort to ensure the safety of our communities,” said Courtney Bernal, acting public affairs specialist for the division.
“We are focused on identifying, investigating and disrupting individuals that were involved in the siege of the Capitol and/or continue to incite violence and engage in criminal activity here locally.”
Local law enforcement partners are assisting Denver FBI in sharing information from tips submitted by the public.
Members of the public are urged to remain vigilant in the coming days and to immediately report any suspicious activity or acts of violence to law enforcement.
Tips, information and videos of illegal activity can be reported to Denver FBI at 303-629-7171 or fbi.gov/tips.
