Elizabeth Warren launches Colorado ad campaign featuring praise from Barack Obama (VIDEO)
Democratic presidential candidate Elizabeth Warren launches her first television ad campaign in Colorado Wednesday with a spot featuring former President Barack Obama heaping praise on the Massachusetts senator, Colorado Politics has learned.
“Elizabeth understands what I believe,” Obama says in the 30-second ad. “That a strong, growing economy begins with a strong middle class.”
The ad’s audio features excerpts from a 2010 speech by Obama lauding Warren for helping establish the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.
The $300,000 statewide ad buy on broadcast and cable stations is set to run for one week, Warren’s campaign said.
Obama hasn’t endorsed a 2020 Democratic candidate for president, though nearly all of them have released TV or digital ads starring the popular former president.
Warren is one of eight major Democratic candidates running in Colorado’s presidential primary. Ballots are due March 3, known as “Super Tuesday” because 14 states count their votes the same day.
After the first two contests – Iowa’s caucuses and last week’s New Hampshire primary – Warren ranks third in the all-important delegate count, behind former South Bend, Indiana, Mayor Pete Buttigieg and U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders of Vermont.
She’s set to appear at a town hall-style campaign event Sunday in Denver, capping a steady stream of White House hopefuls visiting Colorado this week.
The only other candidates with ads on the air in Colorado are billionaire Mike Bloomberg, who is outspending the competition by a wide margin and also features Obama in an ad, and Sanders, who kicked off a $5.5 million TV and digital ad buy two weeks ago in 10 Super Tuesday states, including Colorado.
