Health Care advocates will rally at the state Capitol and hear from Gov. Jared Polis Thursday, as Democratic lawmakers continue to fiddle with the state’s health care industry.

Polis has made reducing the cost of hospitals, insurance and drugs a cornerstone of his first term, and his allies in the General Assembly have obliged him well, last session and this year.

Polis will speak at First Baptist Church at 1373 Grant St. at 8:45 a.m., with a short question-and-answer period, before health care advocates move on to the Capitol to lobby.

Last year, as he rolled out his “roadmap” to saving people money on health care, Polis spokes outside DenverHealth Medical Center about his goals and Coloradans’ expectations.

“We really are making history here in Colorado,” he said. “Whether you’re a Republican, Democrat or independent, everyone who has run for state legislature, their constituents spoke with one loud voice: ‘Do something about health care costs.’

“You know what? Our constituents are right … Coloradans are sick and tired of being ripped off.”

The Health Care Day of Action in its 12th year is a fairly big deal, put on by the Colorado Consumer Health Initiative to lobby lawmakers. Advocates are expected to speak up on drug prices, a public option insurance program and health care-related issues the General Assembly is expected to wrangle with before the current session ends in May.

Workshops, lunch and a panel with legislators will continue at the First Baptist Church starting at 11 a.m. and lasting until 1:15 p.m.
