The legislative session is poised to begin, and so is the bi-weekly presence of faith leaders at the Capitol.

“Faithful Thursdays is a diverse coalition of leaders, organizations and community members who are committed to adding a deeper, moral dimension to the public policymaking process in Colorado,” the group announced on Monday.

Specific legislation may be the topic of some Thursday meetings throughout the session. Otherwise, the events will focus around justice and caring. The initiative grows out of last year’s “Faithful Tuesdays” effort.

“The goal of Faithful Thursdays is to bring a powerful faith voice and narrative to the State Capitol around issues related to a moral economy, equity and the eradication of racism,” the group wrote on its website.

The sponsor organizations include the Colorado Catholic Conference, the Colorado Council of Churches, the Episcopal Church of Colorado, MOSAIC, the Interfaith Alliance of Colorado, the Rocky Mountain Rabbinical Council, Mile High Ministries, Together Colorado and the Lutheran Advocacy Ministry-Colorado.

The group will first convene on Jan. 7, a day ahead of the legislative session, and then every first and third Thursday until May. Sen. Larry Crowder, R-Alamosa, and Rep. Jonathan Singer, D-Longmont, will speak at Tuesday’s opening event.
