Colorado Parks and Wildlife announced that Southeast Region Manager Brett Ackerman will hold a caucus at the agency’s Colorado Springs office on Jan. 7.

“If you love Colorado’s outdoors and wildlife, then you should attend our free caucus and join in our wide-ranging discussions with sportsmen and sportswomen,” Ackerman said. “We value your input and hope you will come and help us protect your natural resources.”

The event is billed specifically for the participation of “hunters, anglers, trappers and outdoor enthusiasts.” CPW will seek input on wildlife and resource management, and CPW’s policies.

Among the topics on the agenda are CPW’s plans to open a new state park at Fishers Peak, near Trinidad. The targeted opening date for at least some of the 19,200-acre site is in 2021. The park will allow hiking, mountain biking, and hunting.

CPW plans to give an additional update on small game hunting and public access for hunters.

The agency manages 41 state parks and over 350 wildlife areas. It also issues hunting and fishing license, and provides assistance to landowners on habitat management.

The meeting will take place in the hunter education classroom at 6 p.m. at 4255 Sinton Road.
