Polis to host animal adoption event at Governor’s Mansion
Everyone who wants to go to the Governor’s Mansion on Saturday, raise your paws.
On Dec. 7, Gov. Jared Polis and First Gentleman Marlon Reis will host a pet adoption fair, Polis’s second this year.
“We’re thrilled to host this adoption fair at the Governor’s Mansion and help these dogs, cats and ferrets find their forever homes,” Polis said. “We hope Coloradans who join us will help an animal in need and take home a furry friend to help spread love and joy this holiday season and beyond.”
The state’s First Dog, Gia, is a terrier mix adopted from the Humane Society of the South Platte Valley a decade ago.
The fair will take place in the Carriage House from 3:30 to 5 p.m., where an estimated 30 animals will be available for adoption from Ferret Dreams Rescue, MaxFund and the Animal Rescue of the Rockies.
All three organizations happen to be no-kill shelters.
The adoption fair is open to the public. MaxFund charges for adoptions based on age; dogs are between $75 and $200, with dogs under six months being the most expensive. Cats will cost between $50 and $100, with kittens costing more.
Ferrets that are two years and younger will cost $100, while those older than two years are $75.
Animal Rescue of the Rockies did not respond to an inquiry about their pricing, but the group’s website shows adoption costs of between $80 and $395.
MaxFund will not allow same-day adoptionsbut will have applications available. Animals will be ready for pickup once the processing is complete.
Ferret Dreams would prefer prospective owners to leave their information and come by the rescue after the fair to pick up their ferret.
