On Wednesday, the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, led by U.S. Rep. Adam Schiff, held the first formal, public hearing of the impeachment inquiry into President Donald Trump.

Former ambassador William Taylor and State Department employee George Kent testified that the Trump administration worked outside normal foreign policy procedures to withhold military aid to Ukraine in contravention of longstanding U.S. policy.

What prompted the inquiry was a whistle-blower complaint about Trump’s phone call with the Ukrainian president in July, in which he said, “I would like you to do us a favor” and investigate former Vice President Joe Biden.
