Members of Colorado’s congressional delegation announced on Wednesday that federal funds would go to two Colorado transportation projects.

Of the $43.4 million headed to the state, $25 million will be for Aurora to realign Picadilly Road and construct a new I-70 viaduct. The other $18.4 million will improve highways in El Paso County to better serve regional military facilities.

“These BUILD grants will go a long way to help ease congestion and improve access for Colorado’s military installations and safety for the Picadilly Road interchange,” said U.S. Sen. Cory Gardner, referring to the Better Utilizing Investments to Leverage Development program. BUILD has funded $7.1 billion in projects since 2009.

U.S. Rep. Jason Crow’s office noted that the Aurora project is expected to ease congestion in an area that anticipates 75,000 jobs by 2040.

“Great news!” U.S. Rep. Doug Lamborn tweeted. “Today, I received notice from @USDOT that I have secured $18.35 million in a BUILD grant for our district. The money will go to HWY 94 and other military transportation projects. This money will help in future growth and the permanent establishment of @US_SpaceCom.”

In September, U.S. Space Command was re-established at Peterson Air Force base in Colorado Springs. CBS4 reported at the time that President Donald Trump diverted money for constructing the facility to instead pay for a barrier at the Mexican border.

“Colorado has shown time and again that it will always support Fort Carson, Peterson Air Force Base, Schriever Air Force Base, and Cheyenne Mountain Air Force Station,” said U.S. Sen Michael Bennet in a statement.
