Denver Democrats hold Senate candidate forums across county

The Democratic Party of Denver will hold a series of forums spanning the entire county for the people running for the U.S. Senate in 2020.

All candidates have been invited and intend to participate in the next forum. The format will feature two hours of questions and answers, preceded by 30 minutes of socializing and followed by an additional 30 minutes for attendees to meet the candidates.

There are eight candidates actively campaigning to defeat Republican U.S. Sen. Cory Gardner. At a prior Democratic Party forum on Oct. 5, seven candidates participated. Former Gov. John Hickenlooper did not attend, and multiple competitors noted his absence while accusing national party leaders of favoritism.

“Right here in this state, we have seen the inequities occur with the Democratic Senate Campaign Committee putting their finger on the scale in this race,” said state Sen. Angela Williams, D-Denver.

House Districts 6 and 9, covering South/East Denver, will hold their event on Saturday, Oct. 26, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Calvary Baptist Church at 6500 E. Girard Ave. The announced moderators will be Alliance Center executive director Brenna Simmons-St. Onge and former mayoral candidate Penfield Tate.

House Districts 7 and 8 in North/East Denver will hold their forum on Saturday, Nov. 2, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at St. Thomas Episcopal Church at 2201 Dexter Street.

Finally, House Districts 4 and 5 in North/West Denver will hold their event on Saturday, Nov. 9 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Highlands United Methodist Church at 3131 Osceola Street.

This story has been updated to clarify that all candidates have committed to attend the Oct. 26 forum.

“Planet in Peril: A 2020 Senate Candidate Forum on Climate” was held Sunday at University of Colorado at Colorado Springs.
