Labor, business partnership makes Denver-area political endorsements
A group of labor and business organizations handed out endorsements for several Denver-area mayoral and city council races Wednesday.
They will back the candidates through an issue committee called Business & Labor Together.
Pipefitters Local 208 made the endorsements alongside the Colorado Association of Mechanical and Plumbing Contractors, Mechanical Contractors Association of Colorado, Mechanical Service Contractors Association of Colorado, and the Colorado Chapter of the National Certified Pipe Welding Bureau.
They chose:
- Adam Paul, the incumbent mayor of Lakewood.
- Pat Quinn, a former Broomfield mayor who is seeking the office again.
- Bob Roth and Johnny Watson, who are running for Aurora City Council.
- Rene Bullock, the former mayor pro tem of Commerce City, who is running for mayor.
“The public is tired of partisanship. The public is tired of gridlock,” Dave Davia, the executive vice president and CEO of the Colorado Association of Mechanical and Plumbing Contractors, said in a statement. “So are we. Business and labor is coming together to support leaders who are bigger than the dysfunction in politics, and who will put the best interests of small business, working men and women first.”
Gary Arnold, the business manager of Pipefitters Local 208, said the partnership hoped to send a message.
“If business and labor can come together and support common sense candidates in critical races, then leaders on city councils and in our legislature should work to overcome partisan divisions around a common sense agenda that starts with good jobs and protecting our Colorado quality of life,” he said in a statement
