Colorado homebuilder fined for exposing employees to fall hazards
A Colorado-based home construction company will pay fines for failing to protect its employees.
An inspection by the U.S. Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration found that Greenwood Village-based Century Communities was not properly inspecting its jobsites nor establishing sufficient safety standards during framing and roofing.
Century will now have to pay $132,596 in penalties within 15 business days or contest the inspection results, according to an OSHA release Friday.
The investigation was part of OSHA’s Regional Emphasis Program on Fall Hazards in Construction, renewed in October 2017.
“Workers employed in the construction industry face many hazards that can lead to serious injury, illness, and death,” the program summary says. “Fall from height is a major hazard routinely faced by workers in both the commercial and residential construction industry.”
