Denver to re-train guards who turned away man wearing reparations button
Denver will re-train its contracted security guards after they refused entrance to the Denver City & County Building on Monday to a man wearing a pin referencing reparations.
The pin read “Black Reparations Now. America Must Atone,” reports Denverite.
The guards incorrectly enforced a judge’s order banning the display of signs or materials in the building’s judicial branch areas only.
“General Services is fully investigating this incident and takes it seriously,” said Ryan Luby of the City Attorney’s Office. Both agencies will add training for contracted security personnel.
“The city does not have any policy barring the public from exercising a protected form of free speech,” Luby said.
