Contractor: Denver I-70 project likely to be delayed 9 months

The Interstate 70 expansion in Denver now is expected to be completed in December 2022, later than anticipated.

The $1.2 billion project’s contractor, Kiewit-Meridiam Partners, originally had a six-month delay approved earlier this year, reports The Denver Post.

Its Aug. 29 update to bondholders predicts an added three-month delay, citing extended dialogue over design of a new railroad bridge.

This delay comes as other contractors working on Denver projects struggle to meet deadlines.

C-470’s construction was to have been completed in August but has been pushed to between this December and June 2020. The Colorado Department of Transportation blames the delay on contractors Flatiron and AECOM. The contractors told CPR News that the delay was due to unprecedented weather.

Denver International Airport fired Great Hall Partners last month over delays and alleged communication issues that resulted in the project’s tentative completion date being pushed to 2025.

The goal of the renovations is to move DIA’s security check-in stations from the main terminal’s Great Hall upstairs to the baggage check-in level, opening space in the Great Hall for more retail and food outlets.
