Lakewood’s successful growth limitation ballot initiative faced $570K in opposition

Lakewood voters have decided to limit their city’s growth despite significant funding against the idea.

The opposition to ballot question 200 raised $573,686, with the largest contribution of $200,000 from the National Association of Realtors. The proponents raised $15,071, reports the Denver Post.

The housing cap limits new residential construction to 1% annually.

Lakewood’s City Council has been debating how to establish the measure since it was enacted in July. The cap will become effective in January of 2020.
