A recall petition against a Colorado state senator has been re-approved after it was withdrawn earlier because of a factual error.

The Rebublican-backed recall drive targets Democrat Brittany Pettersen of Senate District 22 in Lakewood.

Pettersen won election last November over Republican Tony Sanchez by 16.3 percentage points, an 11,993-vote margin.

The filer is Nancy Pallozzi of Lakewood, who was defeated soundly by Pettersen in a 2016 House election.

The Pettersen recall filing had been approved July 12 by the office of Secretary of State Jena Griswold, but was temporarily withdrawn by its proponents days later due to an error in the recall statement that was to be included on the petitions – an error first reported by Colorado Politics.

The recall statement claimed Pettersen voted on House Bill 1312, a bill that would have modernized Colorado’s immunizations standards. However, the state Senate never voted on that bill; it was dropped.

Recall backers last week refiled a corrected Pettersen petition, which Griswold’s office approved Thursday.

Recall backers now have until Sept. 16 to gather at least 18,376 valid voter signatures in Pettersen’s district to trigger a recall election.

Gov. Jared Polis and state Sen. Pete Lee, D-Colorado Springs, also are being targeted by Republican recall drives, and there has been talk of other Democrats facing recall attempts.

The GOP currently is in the minority in both houses of the legislature.
