Marguerite Salazar, who leads the Colorado Department of Regulatory Agencies in the Hickenlooper administration, is leaving to fill a similar post for New Mexico Gov.-elect Michelle Lujan Grisham.

Salazer will lead the New Mexico Regulation and Licensing Department.

At Colorado’s DORA, Salazar oversaw regulators for a wide range of businesses, from acupuncturists and accountants to securities brokers and veterinarians.

Its divisions include the Division of Banking, the Division of Insurance, the Colorado Civil Rights Division and the Public Utilities Commission.

Salazar previously was regional director of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

“Marguerite is one of the most capable leaders I know,” Gov. John Hickenlooper said in a statement. “Before leading DORA, she guided our Division of Insurance through some of the most tumultuous times in recent history. Her advocacy for the consumer has left a legacy in our state.”

Salazar will leave her post on Jan. 8 when Hickenlooper leaves office.

Friday, Gov.-elect Jared Polis announced that Patty Salazar, DORA’s deputy executive director and commissioner of both the banking and financial services divisions, will lead DORA in his administration.
