After keeping us all waiting for the better part of a year to find out which city will land Amazon.com Inc.’s $5 billion second headquarters, it now looks like two locations will get half-sized versions of “HQ2.”

And it doesn’t appear that Denver – one of 20 finalist for the huge development – is still in the running.

The New York Times reports that the Seattle-based e-commerce giant is wrapping up plans to split the new campus in two, with one going to the Long Island City area of Queens, New York, and the other to the Crystal City development in Arlington County, Virginia, near Washington, D.C.

Each of the two half-sized HQ2s would be home to about 25,000 employees.

Over the weekend, The Washington Post – owned by Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos – reported that Amazon was zeroing in on Crystal City alone. But then the Wall Street Journal said “not so fast,” indicating that the company was still looking at other sites, maybe including Dallas.

The Times says NYC and DC already are Amazon’s biggest employment bases outside of Seattle.

New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo sounds like he really wants Amazon: “I’ll change my name to Amazon Cuomo if that’s what it takes,” the Times quotes him as saying.

So what about Denver?

“We have received no notification that we have been disqualified from the process,” an official at the Metro Denver Economic Development Corp., which submitted Denver’s pitch to Amazon, told The Denver Post.
