Jeff Hunt, the director of the conservative Centennial Institute at Colorado Christian University, is taking a seat on the advisory council for Turning Point USA, the high-profile outfit that courts college students on the merits of conservatism.

The organization, however, also courts controversy. Last week the Arizona Republic noted it has “faced repeated claims of racism and anti-Semitism” in questioning why Gov. Doug Ducey spoke to the organization.

Turning Point USA said in a release Wednesday that its mission is “to identify, educate, train, and organize students to promote the principles of freedom, free markets and limited government,” and that aligns well with the Centennial Institute and conservatives in the West.

The organization’s founder and executive director, Charlie Kirk, and spokeswoman Candace Owens appeared at the Western Conservative Summit, put on by the Centennial Institute, in July.

“The rise of leftism and socialism on college campuses are harming a generation of young Americans. I am proud of the work of Charlie Kirk and Turning Point USA in promoting free markets, personal freedom and the original intent of the Constitution,” Hunt said in a statement. “The Centennial Institute and the Western Conservative Summit look forward to a continued partnership with Turning Point USA in educating younger generations on America’s founding principles.”
