The Grand Junction Daily Sentinel: Progress can’t beat tradition in Palisade

Mesa County commissioners must be relieved that they don’t have to decide the fate of a 120-foot wireless tower in Palisade’s fruit and wine country. No matter how they may have voted, someone was going to be unhappy.

Growing opposition to the tower led East Orchard Mesa winemaker Theresa High of Colterris Winery to withdraw from a proposal to situate an Adaptive Communications tower on her family’s land.

As the Sentinel’s Amy Hamilton reported Saturday, the tower was intended to boost spotty internet service in Palisade and for residents of East Orchard Mesa. High indicated she was willing to allow the project to move forward on her property as an act of neighborliness. But after the project received approval from the Mesa County Planning Commission, it ran into a buzzsaw of opposition that included town trustees and Palisade’s chamber of commerce.
