The Colorado Springs Gazette: Owen Hill runs desperate, deceptive congressional campaign

State Sen. Owen Hill wants us to believe the absurd. He insists U.S. Rep. Doug Lamborn supports abortion.
With Hill promoting this outrageous theme, don’t be surprised if he blasts President Donald Trump for coddling immigrants.
No one seriously questions Lamborn’s anti-abortion, pro-life credentials. Before his election to Congress, he was best known for running more pro-life legislation than anyone in the history of Colorado’s General Assembly.
“Lamborn is fiercely anti-abortion and has fought against federal dollars being allocated to women’s health care provider Planned Parenthood,” explains a 2017 Denver Post news article about Lamborn’s work to include prolife priorities in all health care legislation. “The congressman says he has sponsored 50 ‘pro-life’ bills since being elected.”
A list of Lamborn’s state and federal prolife actions would fill this page.
Lamborn has a 100 percent lifetime rating from National Right to Life. Pro-choice organizations and activists consider him a nightmare. He has a zero percent lifetime rating by the National Abortion Rights Action League’s Pro-Choice America, the Planned Parenthood Action Fund, and other groups that rate federal politicians for supporting abortion rights.
Hill, by contrast, appears far less threatening to Planned Parenthood and others who defend abortion rights. Planned Parenthood Votes Colorado gave him a 25 percent rating in 2013. The organization improved his grade to 33 percent in 2017. The Women’s Lobby of Colorado, “Protecting Reproductive Rights,” gives Hill a 43 percent rating.
Trailing badly in primary polling, Hill wants to confuse voters with a mailer that screams “Pro-Life Voter ALERT.” Adorned with images of baby feet, it claims “Doug Lamborn BETRAYED Pro-Life Voters… and millions of unborn children.”
At issue is Lamborn’s support of the most recent continuing resolution and omnibus bill. It keeps government from shutting down. If Lamborn votes to close government, he keeps military families from feeding their children.
Lamborn voted for a funding package that included defunding of Planned Parenthood, but the Senate voted it down. The funding package signed into law includes no line item that funds Planned Parenthood, but money flows to the organization through Medicaid reimbursements and other federal channels. On that basis, Hill says Lamborn supports abortion.
In addition to the mailer, a Hill-friendly TV ad by the Clean Up Our Congress political action committee accuses Lamborn of supporting abortion. The 30-second ad features video of an ultrasound, with an angry woman accusing Lamborn of “funding Planned Parenthood.”
Whether one supports or opposes abortion rights, Lamborn’s position has always been clear. He crusades against abortion and funding of Planned Parenthood.
These deceitful ads and mailers make one thing perfectly clear. Someone views pro-life voters as gullible and stupid.
