The Pueblo Chieftain: Rec center pipe dream?

City Councilman Ray Aguilera’s enthusiasm for making his hometown of Pueblo better can be infectious, but not always practical.

The South Side councilman’s latest dream is for the city somehow to develop and build a multipurpose recreation center in Downtown Pueblo. At a recent council retreat, Aguilera sensed his idea may catch on with his colleagues.

The first step, he said, would be for the city to determine what a Downtown recreation center would cost and find the funds for it. He suggested that it might be patterned after a rec center in the Denver suburb of Wheat Ridge – indoor lap and leisure pools, fitness areas with free weights and resistance equipment, a dance studio, track, gym, racquetball courts and all. Even a climbing wall and other amenities.
