Tyler Stevens of Green Mountain Falls joins GOP primary against Doug Lamborn
The 5th Congressional District primary against incumbent Rep. Doug Lamborn keeps getting more crowded, as Green Mountain Falls businessman and civic leader Tyler Stevens joins the mix.
Stevens is the latest on the list of challengers made up of state Sen. Owen Hill, El Paso County Commissioner Darryl Glenn and retired Texas judge Bill Rhea.
Two Democrats are in the race for the El Paso County congressional district: Stephany Rose Spaulding and Betty Field.
Lamborn has served six terms. He’s a staunch defender of the military and ally of President Trump.
Stevens’ resume is more local. He’s served as either mayor or town trustee in the community on the border of El Paso and Teller counties since 1998. He’s represented the own on the Pikes Peak Area Council of Governments, the Pikes Peak Regional Transportation Authority and the Pikes Peak Regional Building Commission.
He is the owner and general manager of Complete Kitchens in Colorado Springs. Stevens is a medical captain for the Green Mountain Falls/Chipita Park Fire Department and the current vice president of the Teller County EMS Council.
He touts his own background as a chief qualification. “to bring local government pragmatism to Washington and better our nation by advancing freedom and promoting individual liberty,” Stevens said in his announcement.
“My background as an elected official, job creator as a small business owner and as a captain in the volunteer fire department, uniquely positions me to add my voice to the debate,” he said. “I look forward to meeting and introducing myself to voters across the district and hearing the concerns they have with Congress’s inability to get things done. We have a unique opportunity this year to bring new energy to Washington, and I believe my values are well aligned with the voters in the district. I believe government spending can’t continue to go unchecked. And I think government should stay out of our personal lives. I think most people in our district believe that too.”
