The shooting deaths of three Colorado sheriffs’ deputies in five weeks have triggered public sympathy for our sworn protectors and outrage against the criminals who murdered them.

The latest, El Paso County Deputy Micah Flick, was slain by a Colorado Springs man in a gun battle with law officers Monday. Flick was killed in the line of duty, leaving behind a wife and 7-year-old twins.
