The Pueblo Chieftain: Crime Stoppers record

Pueblo Crime Stoppers received a record 2,515 anonymous tips that resulted in 65 arrests and the clearing of 122 cases in 2017.

Jeff Shay, a Pueblo Police Department detective and Crime Stoppers coordinator, said the program paid out nearly $8,500 to anonymous tipsters, about par with payouts of $8,620 in 2015 and $9,465 in 2016.

“Our tips have continued to go up each year,” Shay said. “Ever since I’ve been a coordinator, we’ve gone up a couple hundred each year and we’ve reached our peak at a little over 2,500.”
