The Pueblo Chieftain: Springs stonewalling
Colorado Springs appears to be stonewalling federal and state requests to turn over evidence pertinent to claims against the city for violating environmental standards on Fountain Creek. The United States Environmental Protection Agency and the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment allege that Colorado Springs has willfully and improperly withheld records they are entitled to in an environmental lawsuit against the city in U.S. District Court in Denver.
Pueblo County and the Lower Arkansas Valley Conservancy District have joined the 2016 lawsuit on the grounds that Colorado Springs has fouled Fountain Creek waters that ultimately run through Pueblo and empty into the Arkansas River.
The lawsuit contends that excessive pollutants from the Colorado Springs stormwater system caused serious health and environmental problems while damaging the creek. Colorado Springs denies the allegations and contends that requests for more records are unreasonable.
