The Grand Junction Daily Sentinel: Why an FTZ?

Anyone who dreams of flying to Cabo San Lucas directly from Grand Junction should be pulling for Grand Valley economic development partners to succeed at establishing a foreign-trade zone here.

Direct international flights are a potential byproduct of the laborious and expensive process of foreign-trade zone approval. The Grand Valley has never had an FTZ to the detriment of local manufacturers who rely on imported raw materials to make their products or sell things overseas.

The idea took off here after a Steamboat Springs manufacturer expressed interest in relocating to Grand Junction. Without an FTZ, however, Grand Junction lost out to Ogden, Utah.
