Colorado judge leaving for position with justice department
VAIL – Eagle County Court Judge Katharine Sullivan is leaving after 11 years on the bench for a job with the Department of Justice in Washington, D.C.
The Vail Daily reports a courtroom filled with a former district judge, a higher court judge, court staff, a county jail inmate and former detainees sent off Sullivan on Wednesday.
During her time at the Eagle County Court, Sullivan has heard 45,000 cases and founded the Eagle County Adult Intensive Supervision Probation. The program boasts that 70 percent of its graduates have not been charged with any new offenses.
Sullivan was able to graduate seven more people from the program before leaving for her new position as the chief deputy director for the Department of Justice Office of Violence Against Women.
