The Download: Perlmutter tweets Pettersen’s praises, Bennet admires Broadway star’s jacket

Too little, too late?

Colorado Politics was the first to tell you last week that Democratic state Rep. Brittany Pettersen will run for term-limited state Sen. Andy Kerr’s seat in District 22.

The news came on the heels of Pettersen’s August announcement that she would drop out of the U.S. Congressional race for Rep. Ed Perlmutter’s seat after Perlmutter announced that he would would run for re-election after all.

Prior to dropping out of the U.S. Congressional race, Pettersen had raised more than $170,000 and earned a coveted endorsement from EMILY’s List, a national group that backs Democratic women candidates.

Last Wednesday Perlmutter, from his campaign handle, @Ed4Colorado, tweeted a link to our article about Pettersen’s announcement with the text “@pettersen4co has fought for hardworking folks in the middle & she’ll continue to in the state senate. #copolitics.”

He did so twice, in fact.

Pettersen eagerly retweeted Perlmutter – three times.

“I’m so grateful to have @Ed4Colorado support for SD22! #copolitics #coleg,” she included with one of the retweets.

Was Perlmutter’s tweet enough to make up for the trouble he caused Pettersen and fellow former U.S. Congressional candidate state Sen. Dominick Moreno, who also left the race after Perlmutter re-entered it?

You decide.

Anywhere but here?Which schools should U.S. Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos visit in Colorado?

We asked our readers this question on Facebook last week as we shared a story from our partners at nonprofit education news website Chalkbeat Colorado.

The story speculated where Ms. DeVos might show up in the state on her “Rethink School” tour.

Many of the responses were … well … not what we anticipated.

“None!” replied Linda Cutrar.

“She could go anywhere else,” suggested Alex DuVal.

“Zip. Zero. Zilch,” opined Dana D’Ippolito.

“She is not welcome in my classroom,” Elizabeth Rose said.

“They will like her in elite Cherry Creek,” commented Barbara Douglass.

Some serious, legitimate suggestions were received. Among them: any school in Pueblo, Vista Charter School in Montrose, and schools in Aurora and northeast Denver.

The thread was not devoid of DeVos supporters, however.

“Doesn’t matter. Lefty loons will attack her,” quipped John Evans.

The two schools DeVos actually did visit in Colorado were the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs and Firefly Autism Center in Denver.

A brewing bromance? The winner of #twitpic of the week is, hands down, U.S. Sen. Michael Bennet, who last Wednesday tweeted a picture of himself with influential Broadway playwright and star Lin-Manuel Miranda, author and star of the critically acclaimed “Hamilton.”

In the picture Bennet held a playbill from the Denver School of the Arts’ recent production of “In The Heights,” which Miranda also wrote and starred in.

Miranda was in Washington, D.C., last week to accept the 2017 Freedom Award from the U.S. Capitol Historical Society and meet with lawmakers.

“Saw ‘In The Heights’ twice last week at Denver School of the Arts & shared this with @Lin_Manuel to celebrate #ArtsEdWeek. #BecauseOfArtsEd,” Bennet tweeted.

He later tweeted another picture of himself with Miranda, clad in a hunter green corduroy blazer, with the text “Wish I could pull off that jacket, @Lin_Manuel.”

No retweet of Bennet from Miranda yet.

We’ll be watching.
