The Colorado Springs Gazette editorial: Why? Trump ignites ridiculous conflicts

Having served less than a week, President Donald Trump has shown his ability to get things done fast. His actions in just six days will cause sweeping changes all Americans will experience, for better or worse.

Alas, he has also made clear his unwillingness to abandon the type of self-destructive behavior that could make this presidency among the shortest in history.

It started Saturday, one day after his inauguration, when White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer insisted Trump’s inaugural crowd was bigger than President Barack Obama’s. Anyone can see that wasn’t true.

Instead of embracing reality, the Trump administration chose to fuel a nonwinnable, idiotic debate about inaugural crowds. It continued playing out on social media through Wednesday, for which Trump is squarely to blame.
