Poll: Trump, Glenn gaining
Republicans are gaining in Colorado in the races for the White House and U.S. Senate, according to a You-Gov/CBS News 2016 Battleground Tracker poll.
Donald Trump trails Hillary Clinton 42 percentage points to 39, and El Paso County Commissioner Darryl Glenn is 5 points behind incumbent U.S. Sen. Michael Bennet, 46 percent to 41.
The poll sampled 997 likely voters last Tuesday and Wednesday. The margin of error is plus-or-minus 4.1 percent.
As ballots began arriving at county clerk’s offices throughout the state last week, 10 percent of those polled said they were undecided on the Senate candidates. Five percent said they had not decided which presidential candidate they would support.
The Glenn campaign, which has trailed by double digits during most of the general election campaign, issued a statement Monday.
“With eight days out, this poll demonstrates that we have momentum on our side,” Glenn stated.
The Bennet campaign said the incumbent is focused on voter turnout.
Pollsters asked the likely Colorado voters how they felt about the candidates. Twenty-two percent were “excited” about Trump compared with 20 percent for Clinton.
Forty-two percent were “angry” with Trump, compared with 38 percent with Clinton. Forty-nine percent were “scared” of a Trump presidency, while 43 percent expressed that feeling about Clinton.
