Letter: Adams County Republicans support legal immigration

Editor:

This is in response to a Feb. 9 Colorado Statesman article about an Adams County Republican calling on congressional candidate Bruce Baker to resign his Westminster City Council seat over his proposal to end all immigration into the United States.

The Adams County Republican Party believes that America is exceptional in many facets of life with specific regard to its founding written documents. People from all over the world want to come to America because of the freedom it gives to all people, regardless of their race, economic status, gender, religion, etc.

On the topic of immigration, recent administration policies on immigration have wreaked havoc on our country. A country without borders is not a country. We have laws in place, which have been ignored, causing an undue economic drain and conflict in our society. Illegal immigration breeds a damaging welfare cycle, which prevent people most from experiencing their own potential. Our Republican platform states “that for most of those seeking entry into this country, the lack of respect for the rule of law in their homelands has meant economic exploitation and political oppression by corrupt elites. In this country, the rule of law guarantees equal treatment to every individual, including more than one million immigrants to whom we grant permanent residence every year. That is why we oppose any form of amnesty for those who, by intentionally violating the law, disadvantage those who have obeyed it.” Our platform welcomes all immigrants that come here legally.

We truly sympathize with the plight of all people and their yearning to come to America because it is so great and full of opportunity. Yet in order to preserve its greatness and opportunity, we must preserve all that has made it great, including its Judeo-Christian heritage, or there will be no place else for people yearning for true freedom to go. We respect the heritage of all people and their native countries but want them to equally embrace and respect ours also.

In conclusion, life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness done through the rule of law is where the Adams County Republican Party is leading residents in Adams County. Please speak up and fight for our freedoms! Your voice is needed on immigration, on all issues and on all potential candidates. That starts with precinct caucuses on March 1. (Find more information at the Adams County Republican Party’s site.) May God continue to bless each citizen of Adams County, of Colorado, and of the United States of America!

Letter: Legislature should consider economic benefits of carbon tax

Editor: Even though the U.S. Supreme Court has delayed implementation of the EPA’s Clean Power Plan, Colorado is moving forward. One way in which our state might comply — placing a tax on carbon dioxide emissions — is important, as Phil Nelson noted in his recent letter to the editor. Carbon pricing is a widely […]
