Blaha: The leadership abyss

Years of poor leadership, punctuated by the misguided Iranian Nuclear deal, have placed the United States in a precarious situation and on the doorstep of disaster. Our demonstration of weakness in “kicking the can down the road” a decade is shortsighted and deafening to a world looking for courage.

So, after a quick recap of this Neville Chamberlain demonstration of negotiation skills, what do we do as a country … right here, right now?

As an educated observer who has spent decades creating leaders and negotiating deals among dissenting parties, it was apparent that the Iran nuclear deal was doomed from the onset.

Blaha: The leadership abyss

Robert Blaha

First, you never negotiate from a position of weakness or fear. This deal was all about a liberal President, cast and crew sailing America into uncharted waters in search of Legacy on the USS Obama. We were “hell bent” on getting a deal and never positioned ourselves or had the courage to walk away.

This agreement puts the next generation in peril — yes, our children and grandchildren. How weak and shameful for the current Permanent Political Class to support actions furthering their own political aspirations and jeopardizing posterity — Spineless. The analysis and analogy is simple: if you were diagnosed with a cancerous lump in your breast, would you think it wise to monitor the situation for 10 years? No! You would take immediate, aggressive action before it spreads and threatens your life.

Frankly, there is no more time for fudging facts, weak-kneed rhetoric and fear-driven behavior. We need strong leadership, straight talk and bold action. The false narrative of “It is this or a Ground War” is instructive of those in authority not having the skillset needed to do the job or the resolve to do the right thing.

Considering the current state and the actions leading up to today, do we acquiesce and, if not, what steps must America pursue to secure a better future?

Here’s what we need right now —

We need leadership that will seek to consolidate and support non-radical Muslims who want stability in the Middle East and are willing to live with Israel.

We must have zero tolerance for nuclear development of any kind that could ever lead to a bomb. Bear in mind, Iran is an oil-rich country and to think that they “need” nuclear capability for energy purposes is ludicrous.

Next, we should immediately consolidate free countries in Europe, the U.K., Australia and Canada to stand with us in opposing a nuclear Iran.

Next, we should increase sanctions and pressure against this rogue nation until they renounce their desire to annihilate Israel and hatred for “The Great Satan” — America and the free West. We must not tolerate or reward their brutalizing behavior toward women, Christians, homosexuals, and require our four American hostages be released.

Oil imports from Middle Eastern countries that support Iran and terrorism should be cut off. This would drive America towards a more thoughtful, independent energy approach.

Lastly, if the above fails, we need to seriously consider strategically targeting identified nuclear sites with decisive air supremacy.

Although surgical strikes would be perceived and attacked as an act of aggression, perhaps roundly criticized by the U.N. and a host of other nations cheering America’s demise. Our friend, Israel, and others will hail us as vanquisher and our enemies will fear our long-withheld wrath. The bottom line is, we must take a global leadership position in curtailing a nuclear Iran and ultimately a Middle East arms race!

These are tough decisions for tough times, but if history has taught us anything, all one needs to look to is the Nazi aggression of the 1930s and North Korea’s ascension to the nuclear community and the ongoing and current saber rattling from that country.

We find ourselves in a tenuous position. The result of failed foreign policy, lack of internal fortitude and the pursuit of vainglory have created a void being filled by other countries. When circumstances have required America to do the right thing, the bold thing the Leadership thing — We Do It.

We as a nation must rise up and, once again, be the leader and bastion of freedom.

Water storage a major concern heard by resource review panel

Storage! And storage, and, just maybe, more storage. If there was a single message that emerged from the final two hearings on the state water plan, it’s that the East Slope needs more water storage. It’s a message the interim Water Resources Review Committee heard and acknowledged during the hearings, held Monday in Greeley and […]
