Republican George Teal, a two-term Castle Rock Town Council member, this week announced he’s running for the open Douglas County commissioner seat representing District 2.

“I have spent my life dedicated to serving my community and my country,” Teal said in a statement. “It would be a privilege to continue to work for the residents of Douglas County as their commissioner. I will work hard to earn their trust and their support.”

The seat’s current occupant, Roger Partridge, is term-limited.

Teal, an Army veteran and software project engineer, was first elected to the Castle Rock Town Council in 2014 and won a second four-year term last year. He’s a volunteer assistant scoutmaster, a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and served on former Gov. John Hickenlooper’s transition team, on the Military and Veterans Affairs Committee.

Teal, a Republican precinct leader and was a 2016 delegate to the Republican National Convention in Cleveland, is facing a primary contest with businessman Clint Dorris for the GOP nomination in the heavily Republican district. Former Castle Rock Mayor Paul Donahue was running for the position but has withdrawn.

“Throughout my last five years on the Castle Rock Town Council, I have proven that effective, common-sense legislation can accompany aggressive taxpayer advocacy,” Teal said.

“I believe that Douglas County needs a commissioner who will protect the unique character of our communities, while concurrently managing the velocity of growth and ensuring that our transportation, infrastructure, and water needs are met.”

Teal and his wife, Laura, have two children and live in Castle Rock’s Crystal Valley Ranch neighborhood.
