Final vote on $950M bond set for Monday

Mayor Mike Johnston’s Vibrant Denver general obligation bond proposal is set for its second reading and a final vote by the City Council on Monday.

The six bills that comprise the $950 million debt package may still be amended on the floor, or postponed, provided City Council President Amanda Sandoval authorizes a waiver.

If approved, the bond initiative and its proposed project list will be referred to voters this fall on the November ballot.

Elsewhere on the agenda, two proclamations are scheduled for the council’s 3:30 p.m. session.

The first will recognize Aug. 3-9 as National Health Center Week. Celebrated annually in August, the week-long event is dedicated to raising awareness about the vital role of Community Health Centers in providing accessible, affordable, quality healthcare to millions of Americans.

The second proclamation recognizes the city’s annual Brothers Redevelopment and Denver Employee Volunteer Opportunities Paint-A-Thon Day on Aug. 9, an annual event where volunteers paint the homes of low-income seniors and people with disabilities. This year, the event is on Aug. 10.

There are four public hearings slated for the 5:30 p.m. session:

  • Council Bill 25-0902: Community Planning and Development will present a bill for an ordinance changing the zoning classification for 2420 W. 14th Ave. in Lincoln Park.
  • Council Bill 25-0917: The Department of Finance will present a bill for an ordinance concerning the organization and creation of the Broadway Denver General Improvement District, in the City and County of Denver, creating the District Advisory Board and appointing the initial members thereof, and approving the 2025 and 2026 Work Plan and Budget thereof, and making appropriations for budget years 2025 and 2026.
  • Council Bill 25-0802: Community Planning and Development will present a bill for an ordinance changing the zoning classification for 2501 E. 48th Ave. in Elyria Swansea.
  • Council Bills 25-0684 and 25-0685: Community Planning and Development will present a bill for an ordinance amending the Denver Zoning Code by repealing minimum vehicle parking requirements, and a bill for an ordinance amending Chapter 59 (Zoning) of the Denver Revised Municipal Code by repealing minimum vehicle parking requirements.

The Denver City Council will hold its regular meeting on Monday at 3:30 p.m., with the general public comment session scheduled to begin at 5 p.m.
