A man and a woman were shot in New York City shortly after 10 p.m. on Sunday in Greenwich Village after the annual Pride Month parade. The shooting occurred near the Stonewall Inn, a bar made famous by the 1969 Stonewall riots.

A woman was shot in the leg, and a man was shot in the head and is in critical condition, according to local reports. The woman victim was reportedly stable. 

New York City Mayor Eric Adams released a statement about the shooting on X. 

“Saddened to learn about the shooting by the Stonewall Inn tonight as Pride celebrations were winding down,” Adams said. “During a time when our city should be rejoicing and celebrating members of our diverse LGBTQ+ community, incidents like this are devastating.”

“We’re praying for the speedy recovery of the victims in tonight’s shooting,” he said. “The NYPD will work quickly and tirelessly to bring the suspects to justice.”

Adams marched in the parade earlier in the day and expressed his excitement about participating.

“Out here at the Pride parade, real energy,” Adams said. “This is always one of the most exciting parades. I think about the long history of fighting on behalf of this community, everything from marriage to gender equality. A long road to go, so much more we want to do. But right now, we’re celebrating the pride and the diversity of our amazing city.”

No motives have been reported for the shooting, and no arrests have been made, according to the New York Post. The New York City Police Department said the investigation of the shooting at the parade is ongoing.
