Rosie O’Donnell says leaving US was part of therapy plan for a second Trump term

Comedian and television producer Rosie O’Donnell said she consulted with her therapist about plans to move out of the United States in the event President Donald Trump won reelection.

O’Donnell has since moved to Ireland, joining a growing number of celebrities who have left the U.S. to move internationally since Trump’s historic presidential win. As California, in particular, faces a mass exodus of residents leaving the state, Hollywood has lost several celebrities that give the city of Los Angeles its sparkle. This also comes as more film projects and television series venture outside of Los Angeles County for their filming locations.

O’Donnell has been the most vocal celebrity about her move, prompting snide jokes from the Trump administration. O’Donnell explained that she does not plan to return to the U.S. until it’s “safe.” In the meantime, she is pursuing Irish citizenship.

“I feel on the verge of crying when I was there when he got elected. I, luckily, had a plan with my therapist — hope she’s watching. And I said to her, should he be elected, which none of us thought was going to happen, I need a plan and the plan was always and only Ireland,” O’Donnell explained Friday on Irish TV’s Late Late Show. “My grandparents are from here and I grew up, like Conan, who I saw on your show the other time, was. I’m 100% Irish on my 23 and Me. So, uh there was no option. It’s not like — people said, ‘Why didn’t you go to Italy or France?’ I’m like because I’m Irish. So, I went to Ireland, and I have to tell you that it’s really felt like home since I’ve been here.”

Comedian Ellen DeGeneres has also moved across the pond with her wife Portia de Rossi. People confirmed that the two moved to England late last year. The pair recently celebrated their 20-year anniversary and DeGeneres alluded to their move, writing to de Rossi online that she was “happy to be with you everywhere and always.”

Actress Eva Longoria confirmed last November she has been living between Spain and Mexico. Longoria clarified on The View’s Behind the Table podcast that it was not because of Trump.

“I didn’t want it to be taken that I left because of Trump — absolutely not — or because of the elections,” Longoria told host Ana Navarro.

COURTNEY LOVE TO BECOME UK CITIZEN DUE TO ’EMPEROR-CORE’ TRUMP ADMINISTRATION

London has been musician Courtney Love’s home since 2019. The San Francisco native, who was married to late Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain, earned her fame from singing and songwriting. In an interview, Love said she was a fan of London’s “laws. No guns. Four seasons. Discourse. You stan a middle-aged woman far better. Discretion.”

“It’s so great to live here. I’m finally getting my British citizenship in six months,” Love reportedly said earlier this month to the Royal Geographical Society. “Emperor-core is going on at Mar-a-Lago. It’s frightening now. It’s like cyanide now.”
